Steffen was raised with the tunes moves & grooves of James Brown, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye as well as the harmonious tones of The Crystals, the rock of The Rolling Stones and the lyrics of Lou Reed. His musical background consists of a wild mix of influences to which he adds his own ingredients. With his passionate performance he not only surprises and seduces just the music fanatics, his appearance and sound appeals to a very broad audience.
After having released his EP Just Another Man in 2016 things start moving fast for Steffen. Besides several appearances on Dutch national TV and radio and an extremely busy touring schedule, his single Old Enough To Know better becomes a hit on Dutch radio, with NPO Radio 2 marking it as ‘Top Song’. In the Fall of 2017 Steffen retreats to the British countryside to work on new material with Andy Platts (Young Gun Silverfox), Luke Juby (Emeli Sandé, Leona Lewis) and songwriter/producer TJ Oosterhuis. 2018 marks the release of his album Movin’ On after which he embarked on an extensive tour ending in a spectacular show at the North Sea Jazz festival. In recent years Steffen also made his first steps abroad with tours in Spain, Austria and Poland.
With his new album Soul Revolution Morrison embarks on a journey where he searches for the pieces that made him into the man he is today. An important part of this is his young years in Suriname. “Dreams often tell you a lot about yourself. They can tell you things about your heritage, your culture and even your future. In the age old slave tales there are a lot of rituals that have been brought from Ghana to Suriname. One of these rituals describes an eagle named ‘opete’. Since I was young I have had a recurring dream in which I could fly. The last time I had this dream I took it upon myself to share the dream with my family. This way I found out the connection between my dreams and my heritage. Flying in my dreams stands for accepting imperfection, being a protector for the people closest to me and letting go of the barriers that prevent me from growing as a human, man, artist and father” describes Steffen. Its messages like these that make Soul Revolution into an extremely personal album on which the soul singer shows us a glimpse of the man behind the artist.
With the 10 songs long album Morrison delivers an extremely personal addition to the modern soul genre. The album Soul Revolution was released on the 9th of October in 2020.
