Arin Keshishi is an Armenian-Iranian bass player, composer, and artistic director based in Amsterdam. Drawing naturally from jazz, contemporary Western music, and the Iranian and Armenian traditions he grew up with, his music is shaped by lyrical melodies, rich rhythmic landscapes, and an open dialogue between composition and improvisation. As a bassist, he combines virtuosity with a melodic and expressive approach, giving the instrument a distinctive voice within his compositions.
What does it mean to belong when your sense of home is constantly shifting? On his upcoming album Common Ground, Arin Keshishi explores this question through music, bringing together the different cultures, memories, and musical influences that have shaped him. Some pieces begin with a simple melody, others take shape through unexpected rhythmic turns or the spontaneous exchange of ideas between musicians. Throughout, Keshishi gives the music room to breathe, allowing each player's personality to leave its mark. With contributions from Mehdi Nassouli, Reinier Baas, Soheil Shayesteh, and others, Common Ground is as much about the people playing together as it is about the music itself.
